I am looking for some help. I am in the process
of setting up my Etsy shop. I am taking a class
next week (one I took before and get to sit in on again
for free). I am hoping those of you who have
an Etsy shop, or shop on Etsy often, can give me
your best tip for selling on Etsy. Just the one
thing that you feel is the most important
thing to know. If you want to add more, of course
you may do so. I will be selling small things
so that the shipping will be easier. Please help

Good photos and several photos are a must, dimensions if applicable and ensure your don't get all cutsie with your titles but instead use key words that will help people find your items. Now with that being said etsy wasn't my forte but those are all tips they gave me for what they are worth.

Read / subscribe to all the blog posts / tutorials you can on etsy's site. They provide a tremendous amount of information for every aspect of selling there.
And take advantage of the help from your bloggy pals who are etsy sellers. :-) Have laptop, will travel.
I agree with the other comments, especially the tip about utilizing keywords and reading all the helpful articles provided by Etsy. Everything they tell you is right on the money! I subscribe to their newsletters and read every one. Things I haven't done: get involved in Etsy Teams or in Etsy Forums. Apparently those are important activities, but I seem to be doing OK without them.
I am happy to answer any questions I can. I think it is important to "connect" on Etsy. Spend time visiting other shops and "liking" the things they sell. I think joining circles helps. When you follow someone, they might follow you back. If they follow you and "like" something in your shop then everyone else they are circled with will see that they liked your item. Sounds complicated but not really. Just spend time visiting other shops and supporting them so they do the same for you.
In my case, my shop took off when I consistently added more things to it. I try to list something new OR renew something that is expired (or within a day of expiring) every single day. That made the difference for me, I think.
Good (clear, sharp, close-up) photos ARE really important...I suggest using the same background for everything, one that isn't too busy and so doesn't distract the eye from your object (doesn't have to be white, although that is definitely the Etsy "look"--mine are all green [my breakfast nook table!])--that gives your shop a nice visual continuity.

all I know is that listing new groups of items has helped me...like "books" or Vintage stamps or bunches of whisk brooms...those instant collections that help people find you seems to help me! Trial and error...you go girl!!!
