Some New Finds

My shopping for the week is over
so here are some of the things I
found while going to thrift stores
and garage/estate sales. The pink
doll bed is the 3rd pink doll bed
I have found recently.

Inside the little bed is a box
full of old brown bottles. It
is a mix of bottles with lids
and bottles with droppers.

I'm not sure I can part with
this magazine rack with the
green parrot. It is primitive
and colorful and begs to
be used.

I found this old tin at an estate
sale. It seems quaint, and
fancy, and whimsical all at
once.

I am constantly amazed at the
quantity of "stuff" in our lives.
And yet we acquire more and more.
Since starting Andy's Attic I find that
I spend very little time in stores with
new merchandise. That fact pleases me
because I think recycling and re purposing
is very important. My whole life has been
spent around gently used things (of course
mixed with new). I find comfort in
knowing someone else out there got use
out of something that I am now using. Or
someone else appreciated the beauty of
a picture or the color of a bowl. And, am I
the only one who has gone to an estate sale
and wished I could have known the person
who lived there?

Hope the weekend is a good one, Annette

Plant and Quote

Does anyone know what this plant is?
It has appeared in our yard and I'm not
sure if it is a nice, unusual plant or a
ferocious weed that will eat my cat.

This is the flower. It is tubular and
has a faint lavender color. Any ideas?

Be bold in what you stand for and
careful what you fall for.

Cat and Quotes

This is my sweet little
Munchkin. She likes to
sit with me when I work.

Today I came across a little
book called Witty Women. It
is full of quotes from famous women
and I thought I would share quotes.

The first section is Life Lessons:

If I had to live my life again I'd make
all the same mistakes-------only sooner.

Recent Discoveries

These are a few of the things I've picked up lately. I'm
not sure if I will take them all to shop or save some for
the Sept. 12th Vintage Gathering. How many of you
remember the 60's purse at the bottom?

I seem to have a "thing" for small plates. These two with
the flowers are so happy. And the pink doll bed with the
kitties is too cute.

These books are a riot! How to Attract Men looks like the
60's and was published in Portland, OR. The Married
Woman's Bill of Rights has a copyright of 1943. I may
have to read this one for a few laughs.

This little gem has no date but the pictures appear to
be 20's to 30's. Dr. Pierce will sell you his "Favorite
Prescription" (in tablet or liquid form). It is an herbal
tonic especially recommended for the chronic
weaknesses of women. Has been found beneficial
in cases of morning sickness, hysteria and nervousness.
All this for 65 cents for the small size tablets.

Now I need to get things ready for the shop and also
the Vintage Gathering at Beyond the Garden Gate
on Sept. 12th. More on that soon,
Annette

New Place To Shop

How exciting is it to find a new junk/thrift store?? And this one gives all proceeds to local charities. I found it on Junque Couture Home. It is in Vancouver, WA. and is called ReGifting located at 7635 MacArthur Blvd. Vancouver, WA 98662 (360)606-2820. Those of us who sell usually end up donating some things to somewhere...this sounds like a new place to check out.
Happy hunting, Annette

Inside The Attic

I've had requests for some recent pictures of what
Andy's Attic looks like currently. So, for those of you
who live far away and can't get inside, here are a few
shots.

These are very old and I have had them packed away for
quite some time. They probably are spice that was sold
by the peddler who came around by wagon.

In this one you can see the cute little birdie pin cushion.

Favorite Find

Here is the close up . How cute is that?? The bottom is green felt and the little yellow flowers are felt. One flower has a red pin for the center so I will have to add a couple more colorful pins.
I went to take some new things in to the Attic today and totally forgot my camera to take
photos for the blog. This is a steep learning curve for me.
After getting home I took pictures of what I found today and thought I could have them both show up in the same post but it looks like they will be separate. So now there is another thing I need to learn how to do. If anyone knows a good tutorial about how to do all these things I would be thrilled to know. I use the blogger "help" but they use some terms that are not familiar to me. Thank you for your patience. Annette

Todays Finds

Today I escaped and went junking. Here is all that I found. Not much but
every little bit helps. The rose tin is actually a set of three tins. My favorite
is the little birdie pin cushion. It is just the cutest little thing I've seen in a while.

What's the Attic all about?

Yesterday I went to a friends 70th birthday party. She happens to be my junking mentor. So there were many junkers there to talk to. I was asked several times what I sell in Andy's Attic and really had to think for a response. The Attic is very eclectic. I don't specialize in anything. Personally my list of things I like goes on for a long time. So the Attic has a little bit of whatever. Mostly vintage, but some things that just catch my eye. The walls have pictures, wall pockets, valances, shelves, anything that can hang. I have small furniture because my space won't hold much and a couple of bookcases (mostly for display). And then the long list... nick knacks, salt & pepper, vintage tins, candle sticks, McCoy like pots, vases, tea towels, vintage greeting cards, spice sets, hammered aluminum pieces, bowls of various size and style, flower frogs, bottles, buttons, yarn, silver trays, wooden boxes, lamps, baskets, some books, pillows, on and on. I guess I will have to post more pictures and if you are in Battle Ground you may stop by Uncovered Ruby at 510 E. Main St.
More soon, Annette

Launching a Blog

This is a proud moment for me. It took me several weeks to put a picture to this blog and get it going. I have very limited computer skills and had to figure it all out.................
Andy's Attic has been a dream of mine for some time now. My dream came true when Uncovered Ruby in Battle Ground, WA decided to start renting out spaces to some of their consignors. I jumped at the chance and started Andy's Attic. You may have noticed from the header that I like COLOR. I do not follow the current trend of all white, grey, beige, black etc. It isn't that that doesn't appeal to me. I find it soft, quiet and beautiful. But for me color is what brings things to life. I enjoy how colors mix together and bounce off each other and surprise me when they join together unexpectedly. So in this blog there will be color. In my home, my garden and Andy's Attic color rules.
Since I am new to blogging I am open to any and all suggestions or tips. Thank you for visiting and I hope you will stop by again.
