for business the 25th of February. Many vendors will be having
sales in their spaces starting this next Wed. the 15th.
Andy's Attic will have many things on sale for
20% off. I am very sad about this but will find
a new home.

Sad News and Happy News

Uncovered Ruby is closing. My little Andy's
Attic was started inside this shop because Sally and
Lisa gave me a chance. This is very sad news for me and
many vendors and customers who love this shop. We are
hoping that someone will take it over and keep the effort
going forward. Sally and Lisa took a chance with
this venture and it worked out. Thank you both.

On a happier note: My cat Munchy got new grass today!

So all is well in her little world!

1971 Crafting

Found this at a thrift store.
Dated Oct. 1971.
In Oct. 1971 I was not thinking about crafting.
I was thinking about packing my car for my
move from Alabama to Oregon. Let's see
what I missed....

Instead of "risking my life", as some
people saw it, I could have made this
awful outfit out of a kit.

Or I could have been "marrying ancient crafts".

I remember these cute little bags
from the late 60's. The magazine even
gave two pages of mushrooms for your use.

The colors look a little psychedelic to me.

Hmmmm, psychedelic mushrooms. I
think not.

Instead of gazing over the rim of
the Grand Canyon, I could have been making
Christmas ornaments like these. Now I just
look for them in thrift stores and at sales.

Rather than driving along and seeing beautiful
scenery, looking forward to my full independence,
having more fun than I could imagine,
I could have been cutting up bottles.

I wouldn't trade my trip for the fun this magazine
suggested, but I do enjoy looking through it
and remembering those good old days!!

New Finds and a Question

Please forgive the messy garage....these are some
of my new finds.

A cute child's step stool plus chair (the "step
up" swings around to make a chair back)
and an unusual old tin.

Two sweet sayings. I may keep the
Friendship one because I have a large
collection of friendship sayings.

Cool old JC Penny tool holder. I know
it needs to be cleaned so it will
look much better.

Tulip vase that also needs to be cleaned.

Wonderful old floral picture.....yummy colors.

And finally the question.......

To paint the stand or let it keep its
"I've been left outside" look?

And if you vote for paint, would it be
plain white or a bright color like
red, blue, turquoise, yellow, green??

I will be using it for display but
it will also be for sale.

The Year Ahead

I am not usually one to make resolutions
for a new year. This year I have been
thinking about things I want to do,
and things I want to change.

I wonder whatever happened to that daredevil

young woman I was. The one who drove across

the US alone, who raced her sports car, who flew

a plane all by herself.

Did she become more cautious as she
got older? I know she is not more afraid.
Maybe now I am more confident in me,
not needing to "prove" that I can do
anything I want to, because I know I can.

My Munchy

This year I want to spend more time
with the people I care about and the
people I want to get to know. I have downsized my space
at Uncovered Ruby and will be at the Plucky Maidens
Show in April in Portland. I am reducing everyday
concerns and trying to challenge myself.
At 63 I just want to be me. Take it or leave it.
I am blessed with a wonderful husband, and
friends and family who love me.

I am a lucky girl! (but I do miss racing
the car, always loved it)

A Cup of Christmas Tea

Last week I went to a tiny tea for three.

My friend Mary Jo (Faded Rosie) had the tea,
with a table beautifully set. Note the
candle clipped on the plate.

We began with some bubbly and a lovely salad.

There were many yummy little dishes to temp us.
All made by Mary Jo.

There is no picture of the scones she made, but
they were the best I have ever had!!

My friend Sue took these pictures. For some
reason I am not prone to remember to bring my
camera.

At the end of our tea Mary Jo read a very sweet little
book called "A Cup of Christmas Tea"

It was a great little interlude during all this hustle and bustle!

Andy's Nest is Finished

This is the guest part of the room. The white cover
on the bed is just an old shower curtain to protect
the mattress because usually this is covered with my
junk I am getting ready to sell. When company comes
(next weekend) the bed will be made. :>)

This is the real "Nest". My desk with my wonderfully
slip covered red chair. (Thank you Mary Jo, Faded Rosey)
I like to pile things up around me. It makes me feel cozy.
My kitty has her bed in front of the window so she can
see the birdies, and bunnies, etc. Storage items are
placed to make a stairway to her bed because she
has a little trouble jumping that high.

This is what I see when I sit at the desk. This is where I do
paperwork and pricing.

This is area next to the cat's bed. Just some things
that I like to have around, or have a plan for later.

Even the back of the desk has things piled up. It never
seems to end. The desk is an old oak teachers desk so I
covered it with fabric.

My view out the window. On a sunny day it is very pretty
and I can actually see down to the road. We will plant more
things out there for a nicer look in the spring and summer.

The full other side of the "Nest". You can see the sweet
Munchy in her bed. (she is the black blob). Suitcases
for storage, the long library table was my mothers, the sides
pull out lengthwise to make it larger.

So there is the tour. I had fun putting it all together and
I really am comfortable in my Nest. I call it my Nest because
I don't create, or sew, so it is where I "nest".

Been a Junkin

Lately I have been having some good luck at
thrift stores, estate sales, and a rummage sale.
These are the sewing accessories I found.
Rick rack, needles, wooden spools, Pendleton
label, etc.

Also some fun vintage sparkling trim.

Here are some of the miscellaneous things I found.

~~I really messed this up~~. Not sure what happened to this
picture. Anyway, found some cute little
cups and picks. Love the really colorful picks.

Sweet old tin, hanging down are old nylons, two
sweet little oil paintings, and a ton of di.

This is a very unusual metal frame.

Moe of the dice, sweet little mirror, flower frog,
vintage floral pins, and the two little red topped
canisters fit inside each other and the small one
has dice inside.....too cute.

Adorable squirrel bookends. I have a collection
of squirrels. Coffee holder, and a better view of
the dice.

These are some of the kids things I found. In the back is
an ironing board with metal legs. Cute felt ornaments,
shoes, watercolor set, cowgirl pillow.

The Paint Box is from London.

This pillow is one of my favorite finds. It is filled
with lavender. It is heavy and I put it through the
dryer ~~in case of bed bugs~~ to freshen it, and the
whole room smelled of lavender.

There were more good things I found but I needed to spend the day getting
Christmas items ready to go to my booth. Hope you have a good weekend.

last show of this year. It will include a
lovely Autumn Twilight evening on Fri.

and other festivities. On Saturday they will

My "Andy's Nest" is not finished but
is ready for some views. This is the area
that the guests will use.

This is my desk where I will do pricing
and other things to get items ready
to go to Andy's Attic.

Looking out the window. My desk on the
right. I have a nice view on a good day.

My chair will be covered in red linen. For
those who don't know, I am a fan of red!

And a view from the door into the room. I still
need to put more things on the walls and
tidy up a few areas. My cat, Munchkin, has
a bed on the long table that sits against the
window. She likes to be with her mom.
(and her mom likes her to be there)

As more developes I will keep you "posted".

Have you used one of these???

Have you used one of these? I had a couple of
people tell me they are really great and easy to use.

Since Mr. Attic is the main painter in the family, I got
him one to try. That was 3 rooms ago...he likes the
old fashioned way.

Yesterday I came home and decided after he had cut in
all the edges...I would paint the walls. It took me 1 1/2
hours to do the 12x16 room. I do not know if that is a
quick amount of time or not. I do know it was EASY.

I never stepped on a ladder and I am only 5'3". There
were no spills, splatter, drips, nothing. I loved it!!!

I am now curious.....Mr. Attic says he doesn't know how long
it would take him to roll out the walls the "old fashioned" way.

Do you?? Was it quick and EASY or just EASY?
I would recommend this little gadget, but I am no painter.....

The Next Project

This is our guest room. We don't have many guests

as ~~nobody likes us~~ most of our friends and

relatives live nearby. This bedroom set has been passed

down to the oldest daughter since it belonged to my

great grandmother. It includes a dresser and side

table not in the pictures.

I am moving my Andy's Attic "office" into this room.
It means rearranging things a bit but will give me a private
place for all my junk. We my husband will paint the room
starting today. I am very excited about this change and
quite frankly it is all I think about.

Moving my things out of our shared office means another
project down the road.......redo of the office. How fun is
that?? One of these days the house will be finished.

More of the project soon,

I needed a change

The blog has looked the same for too long. I've been
blogging about 2 years and just am sort of tired of the look.

I had wanted barn wood on the sides for a while but
couldn't find what I wanted. Well, lo and behold, blogger
has their own backgrounds (yes, I am slow to catch on) and
there was my barn wood. Then came the header........ I liked
all the color in the old one but decided on a collage that
includes me (yes, the little girl is me).

So now I need some feedback, please. I am far from being
a designer and I want a happy looking, cheery blog. I am wondering if
the barn wood is too dark?? Are the pictures too dark??? Am I over-
thinking it all?? Should it simply be one picture for the header instead
of a collage?? You will not hurt my feelings if you tell me the truth. I
like the truth. Please leave a comment for me so I can ponder more
ideas.

If Irene is around you, you are in my thoughts. I've been through hurricanes
and they are not fun!

The Mama Bird

Last week I was weeding our retaining wall just off our patio.

In March, when you are supposed to trim ferns...well....

our weather was awful and the ferns didn't get trimmed.

These ferns are all volunteers and I love them.

So, I am out there cutting all the dear fern parts away and

being careful not to cut any new fronds. And I was pulling

whatever little weeds had crept into the rocks. You can

probably see the dead fern leaves on the ground.

As I moved over toward the left, a little bird was chatting

with me. I was also trimming up the knik-knik, which is the

long green stuff falling over the rocks. Really nice but you

have to keep it under control. And the birds chats on.

You may need to click this picture to see better. There is

a number 1 over to the left of the stairs. I was trimming

there as there was a huge section of knik-knik that had died.

So I yanked it out and to my dismay, I see a sweet little nest,

nestled in the rock, with precious little speckled eggs. It dawns

on me that the bird is the Mama Bird. OMG. Her nest was

still fairly well hidden but picked up chopped off knik-knik

and stuffed it back over the nest. I went inside and waited.

Finally Mama Bird goes back to the nest. I have checked

on her every day and she is still there. Thank goodness!!!

Then the other day, (if you can see the number 2 to the right

of the stairs), Mama Bird is after a chipmunk. Literally...she goes into

the big space between the rocks and pecks at him till out he comes.

He runs back in and she is after him again and chases him far away!!

She is such a good Mama Bird and I am so glad I am not a chipmunk!!

Garden Project

This is a spot I have chosen as my first plot to work on

in our yard. We bought this house almost 5 years ago

and we have 5 acres. By no means are we landscaping all

of it....we have some forest and a large field...but also a

large yard. We have spent quite a bit of effort doing hard scape

and some basic plantings before we really settle down and

do the pretty things (the things I love).

I have no idea how long it may take for this wood to be

split and stacked....so I am not waiting any longer.

This little plot is just outside my potting shed and

next spring I want it to look WONDERFUL.

This is the happiest of three paper bark maples we

planted in the back yard. The bark is so pretty in the

middle of winter and I love having it by the shed.

This is cape fuscia which is 3 or 4 years old. Notice it is

no where near blooming. That shows how far behind our area

is from even down town. We are about 8 miles north of town

and our temperatures are sometimes 10 degrees colder.

So tomorrow I will start on this little area and start to make it

so that in spring I will have WONDER!!

a computer person it has taken me several trial and errors. Thank you

Blogger doesn't like me

and the feeling is mutual. Blogger has not let
me publish for a long time. When I go to the
publish button it says javascript:void (0)
I have gone to the blogger help and gotten
nowhere. I changed to chrome for my browser
and it didn't work. I am not a computer whiz
by any stretch of the imagination. Many terms I
don't understand. I know I can post this from a
friends computer......I am asking for help from anyone who
has a suggestion or had this problem and resolved it.

Part 2: So, I changed my mind.

I am going to jump to the most awful part of this little trip
and then I will tell you why I changed my mind and decided
this was not the vacation from he!!.

After we were in bed in Santa Fe, our friends came pounding
on our door. They had just learned that the two couples in the
SUVs, who had gone on to Mesa Verde, had been in an accident.
No one was critically injured. However, one friend had a fractured
vertebrae in her lower back and both cars were totalled!

(just a random highway scene)

They had found snow in Mesa Verde so decided not to
camp. The RVers set up in Mesa Verde anyway but the
other two went on toward another location. One car came around
a corner and hit an inch of hail on the road. She spun out and up an
embankment and back into the road and then up the embankment
again. On the other side of the road was a 40 foot drop into a ravine.
As car 1 is coming down the embankment and into the road, car 2 hits
car 1. This causes car 1 to move forward and stop (thus not going over
and into ravine) but causes car 2 to roll twice.

Both cars were totalled. The only severe injury was the
fractured vertebrae. She was the driver of car 1. Her husband
got a cut from his sunglasses and a bruised shoulder from the seat
belt. The friends who rolled were cut a little because all the glass in
the car was broken and they had a couple bruises.

They all made it home OK. We spent 2 days in Santa Fe and came home.

Last night I watched tv, about all the bad weather, people loosing
their homes, their lives, their loved ones. And I realized that our
vacation was not from he!!. When we couldn't camp, we could afford to
get a room somewhere nice. We ate good food and saw beautiful sights.
We enjoyed each others company, as we always do. And when our friends crashed, they lost cars which can be replaced. They were blessed and we
were blessed. It was not the vacation any of us wanted, it could have ended
in a horrible way. But we are all safe at home and planning our next adventure.
So I feel gratitude and happiness. I hope the same for each of those who read this.

So, it was the vacation from he!!

(Columbia River Gorge...Looking from Oregon
over to Washington)

We left on Friday the 13th for a two week road
trip with 10 of our friends. Maybe, right then and there,
I should have had second thoughts. But we were anxious
to escape the rain and go to Utah and New Mexico for
some sunshine!!

Five of the 6 couples ( read that 1 RV and 5 SUVs)
met up in Bryce Canyon the second night. We stayed in a
cute 4 plex cabin for two nights. The weather was rainy
and cool. Not what we were looking for .

This picture doesn't show it but there was snow in
parts of the canyon. We did have enough sun to see
that this is an incredible place in our USA.

Back on the road again, we go to Arches National Park. My
husband had forgotten to bring our senior pass which we had
gotten just for this trip. Fortunately, I had not gotten one, so we
just bought another. Arches is where all 6 couples would meet up
and camp for three nights. (It is the middle of May, after all!!)
We are ready to camp and view the sights and enjoy our friends
around a campfire.
We put up 5 tents while the wind blew, and blew, and blew dirt
(red) into the tent. It was supposed to stop about 9PM. This trip
involves 5 nights of camping and I don't like to camp.

This is our "sunnyday in the summer" tent. It was
staked to boulders. We didn't build a campfire
because of the wind.We went to bed early. It was too windy
to do anything else. We had grit in our mouths,
grit on our faces, and we are hoping our tent doesn't blow away.
And then it starts to rain. Well, more like, POUR. We did not get
much sleep that night.
Turns out the winds were 50 mph. One couple had left their
wet, dirty, tent at 4:30 am and gotten a room in Moab. It sounded like a good idea to us. (did I mention that I don't like to camp?) The rain had stopped and
we took everything out of the tent and shook blankets, and swept floors and
then it stated to rain again.........so the tent itself was taken down in the rain and
shoved into the car as a wet, reddish, gritty glob.

My friend who has been here many times, and has camped here,
and told me "you can't appreciate the beauty without camping", Is
saying, "Isn't it beautiful, though?" And it was. We had a few sun breaks
so did some sight seeing. It is an amazing place. The color and
the formations are remarkable!

This is called Windows...one of the walks we did.
Fortunately we all got rooms for the next two nights
and our RVers found a good place next to us. The
place we stayed had an outdoor room with a BBQ
which we just sort of took over the first night we were
there.

This is Balanced Rock. We did see some wonderful sights.

Shopping in Moab is fun. This shop had a sign
I had to photograph. I have never seen one like this.
Our next stop was to be Mesa Verde, where the cliff dwellings
are located. Problem was we were getting bad reports about the
weather. So, one couple decided to go to Tahoe and see friends.
We decided, with another couple, to go on to Santa Fe and sunshine.
The RVers and 2 couples decided to go to Mesa Verde.

We decided to go to Mesa Verde on the way home from
Santa Fe because I really wanted to see the cliff dwellings
and by then the weather should be better. So we all go
our separate ways on Friday morning,...... and things get worse.

home OK.............

Favorite find of the week

This little stool is my favorite find from last week.

The seat is adorable!! I found it at a newer
shop in Redmond, OR called The Back Porch
and Company. Lisa, the owner, has a treasure
trove of fun things.

Even the back is cute as pie. It will be going
into my Potting Shed. Green is the perfect color
but it may need a new coat of paint.

Happy Mother's Day

My Mother. 1909-1988

This is one of my favorite pictures
of my mother. The hair style had
just come into vogue and she got
it!

This is another favorite of mine.

My mother was almost 40 when I was born.
Fortunately, she was a woman ahead of
her time.
Her goal in college was to be the Dean of
Women at the University of Washington.
However, she gave that up to marry my father.
They had lived next door to each other since
the age of 9 and he is the only man she ever loved.

She was a woman of principle...We had moved to the
deep south in 1959. She had a very difficult time
with segregation. Once, in the 60's, I had some
kids over and one young man used the "n" word.
My mother asked him to leave the house. "We
don't use that word in our home", she told him.

She loved The Beatles!! When they were going to
be on Ed Sullivan, she told me to come home
early from church youth group to watch them.

I miss her! And I have found many things in
life that I wish I could ask her about. And I
appreciate her more as I get older.

Here are a few things I found this week.

One sale I went to today was fun but not very
successful.

When I got there I was number 57 (not a good
start). In addition to that

I see one of my buddies and her number is in
the twenties.

Then, after she goes in I see another buddy (and
blogger) with her friend who both have numbers
lower that mine.

So here I find myself out side with many other
people knowing that there are at least 4 people
inside looking for the same things I like.

So, another lesson learned (and one I really
already knew) GET THERE EARLY!!!

Even though I didn't find a whole bunch of stuff
at that sale, I had a great time seeing some
buddies and sharing some laughs. To me that is
the best part. There is plenty of stuff and junk
to go around.

Spring has sprung!

These are signs that although it is still rather
chilly (32 a couple nights ago) spring has sprung.
The magnolia has bloomed.

The Japanese Maple has little buds. We are always
behind on spring because we live at just a little bit
of altitude and I am amazed at the difference it makes.

One precious little Trillium. They are a fav of mine.

The daffys in front are perked up and smiling.

And all these sweeties greet me at the door.

I got out in the yard today and cleared tree
debris and fir cones from around the hostas so
we can find them now. Only a few have their
little leaves up. Some of the ferns have many new
fronds. It is just a breath of fresh air to see these signs.

Now as I write the temp has gone down and
some darker clouds are coming in......but I know
that we have crossed the line into Spring!!

Long Overdue

This is an old picture of Andy's Attic. I am not good about remembering to take pictures. Do you ever reach a point where you are just sick to death of something? Well, that is how I have been feeling about my little space at Uncovered Ruby. So, with some help from my friend Sue, I changed my whole space. Of course I forgot my camera the first day :>). So this one above is from this morning. Then I almost left without taking the after picture.

I got one shot and the battery died!!!! I may get down

there tomorrow and take a few more. "Cause you can't

really tell the difference without more photos. But

I am very happy with the way it turned out. I can finally

go to bed and not think about all the little things I

want to do there.

I turn around and look south and this is what

Kathy who identified the the cards as a German card

game called Skat.

Apparently the two were placed in the same box but
do not have anything to do with each other. I am so glad

Blogland I need you

This is one of my favorite finds lately and I don't know what
it is.

It is made in West Germany and is in a nice leather box.

It is obviously some sort of card game but I can't figure
out what it is all about.

Each deck has 52 cards but the King is a "K", the Queen
is a "D", and the Jack is a "B". I am supposing that the
German words for each of those start with those letters???
But here is the real puzzle........

It includes 3 regular die and 5 that have pictures of the
King with a K and Queen with a Q and Jack with a J and
then little spades and hearts that I just don't get. Please
help if you can. What is it??? The box is very well made
and the cards tip up when the box opens.
I have no idea how old it is either or what it would be worth.

Any insight will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance,

Progress

Progress is being made. Many things had to come out
of the garage before they could go back in. Some of them
didn't make it back....see the golf clubs by the car?? Well,
it turns out my sweetie had 3 sets of clubs (I thought he only
had two.) So one went to the thrift store!

Here consolidation is being done. It really takes time...

You can see the little car made it back inside. But all the stuff
in the foreground has to go somewhere so we can get one
more car in there.

Found my way back into this hole and have
made progress here, too. Probably can't do much
more for a few weeks but I feel like things are
moving in the right direction. I discovered many
items that can go to shop that I had forgotten
about because they were buried :>)

Progress is a good thing,

What I have been working on

I know this picture is blurred.....I'm not sure if it's because

by the time I took it, I was too tired to focus, or if I just

forgot to focus :>)

This is our 3 1/2 car garage that at this point holds one

(1) small car. The rest is devoted to the regular garage

type things and .....

stuff for Andy's Attic. I know I am not the only one who has

a garage that looks like this. I decided that it was time to get

a grip and try to make it better.

It isn't all my fault.....see the golf clubs? The

other set is somewhere else in the garage and

the pull cart is over on the other side. But it

is mostly my fault. I have all the "stuff" that

either goes to Andy's Attic, or my potting shed,

or the next flea market.

Our goal is to get 2 cars into the garage. My husband got

5 big shelf units at Costco and today we actually got some

of them up and are starting to get organized.

This is the small part of the wall that is relatively done.

We have a long way to go but I feel, now, that it really

can be done......that there is hope.......that I am not alone.

I'll keep you posted on the progress.

All of this does not come without wounds. My husband

dropped a 4X4 on his foot yesterday. He couldn't play golf

today. He can't wear a shoe. But it isn't broken so he was out

in the garage helping me again today. He is the best!!!

Merry Christmas everyone! This is one
of my favorite Christmas finds. I found
it a few years ago and couldn't believe
no one had purchased it before me.

It is a wonderful apron with Santa..........

Georgia style! Isn't it a kick??

And on another note.....

My Potting Shed is ready for company.

Every four months I host our "Girl's Cards" group. In
January we will pull out the drop leaf table on the right
and pull up the chairs and play cards!! FINALLY!!

This is just a cute little bit of folk art I received while in
Port Townsend.

Still not ready for the big day. If you can believe it we just
got our tree today. You would think that now that I am
retired I could find the time to be ready for Christmas way
ahead of time instead of last minute again!!!!

We are getting our first winter snow. It's early for us. If

one can be inside, warm, have food and provisions, there

is such a peacefulness about the snow. We didn't move the

settee into the shed yet so I have no place there to curl up

Favorite Project Part 3

The painting is done.

It took a while because I had a shoulder injury and finally
Mr. Attic painted the whole thing. He is the best.

One of my friends calls this my signature green.

I decided to paint the wood bench and beams instead of
staining them.

It came out just as I had imagined. Now I am in the process
of "moving" in. I will keep you posted.

It is time to make room for Christmas.

I am of the old school, where all the wonderful
Christmas things came out the day after
Thanksgiving.

It was so exciting to go shopping that day and see all
the new things and decorations and displays.

Now it starts in October. It is difficult for me to even
think about Christmas yet. However....

I will be bringing in Christmas things soon so I must make

Favorite Project Part 2

Here it is! The lattice at the bottom was added as much for
decor as to keep all the little creatures out.

And the walls and ceiling are finished in bead board. I came
home from a little vacation and walked in and found my
dream come true!

This is the big window that faces west and up to the left
is a sort of skylight for winter light. You see, I am supposed
to share part of the shed with Mr. Attic so he can grow
things from seed and overwinter plants.........

This view looks out to the front and you can tell we need
to do quite a bit of landscaping still.

I've decided to paint it all white. I have so many colorful
things to put out here and hang on the walls that it is
difficult to think of a colored wall or ceiling.

Except over here where the wood is exposed, I think I will
go with a green stain on the wood. I also plan to skirt the
bench so I can hide things (lots of things).

The floor is a vinyl remnant. There wasn't much to choose
from and I just couldn't go with a beige/white laundry
room looking floor.

To say the least I am thrilled with the outcome. Now I have
to wipe down the walls and paint and stain and then I can
really start to have some fun...............Putting it all back
together. I will post some updates as time goes on.

My Favorite Project this year

This is my Potting Shed, aka Big Girls Playhouse, aka
Potting Cottage.

It's been up for a couple of years, but unfinished on the inside.

So in winter it is too cold and in summer ---too hot!

So it is getting "finished"!

We took almost everything out. UGH!!! (Who knew I

has so much stuff in there?) (What about all the stuff

in the garage that I got because "it will be so cute in the

potting shed" ?)
What am I going to do with all the stuff??? Hmmm.

First we get insulation to keep the temp under control.

And then we add plywood to act as a backing for the ..........

well, in about a week it will be complete and I will show

you pictures then.

This shed has been a dream of mine for years. After realizing

that he can't "do it himself" my super husband got

someone to do it. It will be done soon and I will be able to

paint it and hang things and arrange things and be

out there anytime I want/need to!!

Beautiful day of Junking

Last weekend I went junking out in the country.

This is the kind of view I saw.

This garage sale had parking "down the road".

This was a barn sale at the tree farm.

This was just some amazing old green contraptions I passed.

This deer was in my yard when I got home.

So was this little guy.

And off they went...that crazy lady was unloading her car!

And my Munchy was waiting inside.

Here is some of what I found....a few little treasures.

Cool graphics on this old crepe paper.

A couple of old spelling books. An ironstone platter, and a

neat old handled box with a monogram.

A sweet little bowl with flowers. (can't resist them)

A little birdie whistle, a relaxing colt and some vintage

fru fru.

There was more but this gives you an idea. It was just a

gorgeous day in the country. I went down roads I'd never

been on and saw beautiful scenery. A girl can't ask for

much more.

Finally, some goods from my trip

First of all, I wasn't going to get any more linens.

And then we went to a moving sale where this wonderful lady
was selling things from her old shop and trips to Paris.

I lost my resolve. (Usually I do)

If you have been to my space at Uncovered Ruby or seen

me at A Vintage Gathering, you know I am a "smalls"

person.

The largest thing I got on the trip was the goat in my previous

post. But the whole back of the SUV was full......what does

that tell you?

These were the sweetest little gift cards.

I also have an affinity for vintage planters/pots.

And of course I stock up on cookie cutters, when I find them,

for the Christmas season.

Again, more linens. A gorgeous mohair throw and I cannot

resist the bright table cloths even if they are not old. And

look at the cute little dolls.

Not sure where they are from so if you know anything

about them I would love to hear from you.

These old pinking shears are in perfect condition!

This is sample of what I found. These items will show up at

The Trip from Heaven

First, let me introduce you to:
Sir P. Townsend The Junk/Yard Goat

He was found on the deck at my friends sisters home.
I fell in love with him (odd taste, I know) and when I
told her she said he was for sale. They had planned on
putting him in their store in Pt. Townsend.

This is their store.....Summer House. It is by far the best
little shop in town. It is full of fun things both new and old.

and if in Pt. Townsend, stop by...you will not be sorry!!

This is a picture from the deck at their home.
We sat on the deck to visit as the sun set.

And this is where we stayed. A wonderful hotel within
walking distance of downtown Pt. Townsend.

Isn't it just a great looking place? Very charming. And
our room had a separate bedroom and a kitchen included.

This is the lobby.

And the ceiling...gorgeous!!!!!

This was the most interesting looking thrift shop we

stopped to explore.

This truck was parked outside. UGH!!!!

This store in Pt. Townsend allows you to buy 10 items

at 50% off during your birthday month. Well, it just

happened that my friend Karen had a birthday in Aug.

While you shop they have you wear the Birthday Hat.

Karen found treasures and reaped the benefit of being

an Aug. Birthday Woman!!

In three days we hit 18 thrift stores and two garage sales.

Both g sales were people who had had a shop or had

done flea markets. Such good finds!!

The drive up and back takes 5 hours each way. We also

spent time exploring Pt. Townsend....eating at great

restaurants, seeing cute shops, touring the quaint streets,

seeing darling cottages and beautiful homes. It is a great city.

We stopped in Pt. Orchard on the way up and on the way

home.

There were many stops to be made. We visited Longview,

Lacy, Olympia, Pt. Orchard, Bremerton, Pt. Townsend, and

Shelton.

We went to many Goodwills.....

Some Value Villages....

But we couldn't go to this shop because it was out of

business....wonder why.....

This was the best junk trip in the world. We went non-stop

every day...our time was booked! Karen is the person who

really introduced me to junking in the 60's. She is fun and

easy to be with and just one of the most wonderful women

in my life. We came home with many treasures and I will

show those in another post.

I get the BAD BLOGGER award

I have been tending to my garden and home for the last
whatever. Tomorrow a friend and I are leaving for a three
day junk-a-thon. I can hardly wait. We are headed up to Pt.
Townsend, WA. and will junk our way up and back. I will have
plenty to blog about upon our return.

What I've Been Doing

First we went camping on the McKenzie River in Oregon.
This is the view from our campsite. So beautiful.

There are many rafters and kayakers on the river. We
actually saw one guy fall out of his kayak and it went on
down the river and so did he...we didn't hear any bad news
so figure he got around the bend to slow water and was
rescued by his buddy.

Then we moved on to Eagle Crest in Redmond, OR. This
is the full moon from our deck.

Our place is on the Deschutes river...another lovely view.

Driving home over Mt. Hood we see this kind of landscape
that reminds me of the old westerns where the Indians
would all be on horseback at the top of the ridge.

Further toward home the trees are lining the road and
Mt. Hood peeks out in all her glory!

And one of my favorite sights is the runaway truck ramp.
First of all, there was so much traffic that a real runaway
truck would have run over someones car. Second, I have
no idea why the young lady in the VW decided to pull in
there but she was only a couple cars ahead of us. Looked
like she may have decided to turn around.......hope no trucks
were on their way.

We enjoyed both trips but are glad to be back home.

Many things make me feel peaceful. These are some
visuals that make me peaceful. This is Mt. Hood.

Mt. Hood is about an hour drive out of Portland, OR.
These pictures were taken from Washington. She is
my second favorite mountain.

This is my Munchkin...almost as wide as long but she
makes me relax and smile most of the time.

And tonight's sunset. From our front porch.

We had a super time at A Vintage Gathering Flea Market
this weekend.

The Mascot at Beyond The Garden Gate is looking on
(as always).

She always shows up for our flea market.

We had a great 2 day sale and are all exhausted but will

Sarah at My So Called Junky Life. I was about
to leave on a trip so she waited a little while to
send it my way. Well,....it didn't come. After
emailing back and forth (she had sent it, I hadn't gotten it,
she would send another, I said no because I felt bad
that it was lost), the matter kind of left my mind.
(Lot's of things have a way of doing that) Then I
get a "Second Notice" from the USPS that I have a
parcel to pick up. It is now June, Sarah sent my Egg in
March, go figure. It was so worth the wait. Look at
that beautiful Egg she made!!!! The sweet little trees,
and bunny and all the extra flowers added on top
and bottom. You should visit her blog if you haven't

Then the other day I noticed that my favorite
magazine in the world had announced the winners
of its giveaway, so I clicked and my mouth dropped
open....I was one of the winners of an autographed
copy of this years magazine and their new issue
in 2011. So after being twice blessed with winning
I am thinking about another giveaway of my own.
However, I have a 2 day Flea Market for A Vintage
Gathering coming up next week which has me a little
busy (read that "crazed"). So, it may be a 4th of July
giveaway.

We did not originally plan on a June sale. However, things

worked out so that you will be treated to a 2 day sale!

We will set up at our usual location at Beyond the Garden

Because the sun came out. You may have heard from
many of us in the PNW that we are setting records for the
amount of rainfall recorded.

So I went out in my yard and pulled weeds. And then

when I got tired of that I decided to trim my chives.

And then in celebration of the gorgeous

sun being out I picked wildflowers and put

them with the chives and felt like spring

(yes, I said "spring") had finally come our

way.

A Post with no pictures

I don't usually post about disaster. But I feel I must
put something out there about the Gulf Coast and oil.
The reason for no pictures is that I have seen enough and
my memory is full to the brim...you've seen the pictures, too.

I grew up on the Gulf Coast. If you have never been there
try to imagine sand that is the color of sugar. My grandmother
visited us once and took home a container of sand to show
how pure white the sand is. The water is blue and green and
warm. When I need to relax I picture myself on a blow up
raft floating in the gulf with the gentle waves rocking me
while the sun warms me.

The right or wrong of all of this is up to you to decide. I just
know that a part of our beautiful country is being devastated.
The people who make their living due to the Gulf will be hurt
for years to come. My favorite seafood is peel and eat shrimp.
It could be gone. The white sand could turn to a slick mass of yuk.
The beautiful water could turn to a murky mess.

People, families, businesses, beaches, eco systems, could all
be devastated. Hurricane season is predicted to be worse
than average. More devastation.

No matter how you feel about what is happening, please, please,
put these people and wildlife in your thoughts and prayers. So
much depends on this area being saved. I just hope that it is
within someones power to do so.

YES, someone said SALE!!! Uncovered Ruby said SALE.

And they said it for this Saturday from 10:30 to 4:00.

Many of the vendors will be having things ON SALE! for

the Memorial Day Holiday.

Things will be marked down from 10 to 30%. All you have

to do is come in and see what's going on.

The vendors will have signs to let you know how much

of a discount you can get. I can tell you my space will be

at 10% off. It's a good day to shop.....hope you can make it!

The Wonders of Blogging

Once upon a time I lived in Mobile, Alabama (from age
11 to 23). I saw this tin on the blog 52Flea and left a
comment. If you have not seen Laura's blog you are
missing a treasure. Laura sent me the tin!!!!!

But, she didn't stop there. She filled the tin with goodies.

She had no way of knowing that I have bunnies in my yard
(mostly) and home. (some of the ones in the yard are real,
wild critters). It just makes me smile to look at this face!

Then a lovely bar of French Milled soap......with my initial.
So very thoughtful.

Next was a sweet little flower frog to add to my collection.

And then the cutest little birdies in the world! Again, there

was no way for her to know that I also collect ceramic

birds!!
She really hit the nail on the head with all my wonderful

goodies. Thank you Laura, so very much.

This is one of the wonders of blogging. I have thought at

times that I might just stop with the blog. You know,

you feel sometimes that no one reads your posts and your

blog isn't as cool as some others, so why bother. But then

I realize that the most important thing about blogging is the

people out there in blogland. Laura really brought that home to

me by sending me these little things "just because". I felt so

included in that big bad world out there...someone I would not

know if she walked in my door, whose voice I've never heard,

is kind enough to send me a tin full of joy.

Her photography is so beautiful and how she expresses herself

is heartwarming.
Blogging has opened new doors for me in ways I did not expect.

It is it's own world and I am so happy to be a part of it. Whether

or not anyone reads this just doesn't matter, because I have the

fun of putting up pictures and "chatting" about life, expressing

myself, leaving comments and enjoying reading other blogs.
I am grateful to Laura for helping me see this revelation and for

sharing a part of her with me. Thank you Laura!!!

Treasures from Between Us Girls Sale

Here are some of my finds at the Junk Between Us Girls
sale in Redmond, OR. Being a lover of red, I had to have
the framed chicken wire.

The cute little case has 3 drawers and I just love me some
drawers so I had to have it.

On the cute little shelf are 3 of Julie's soaps
If you have never had her soap you must get some next
chance you have. They are wonderful!! Also,there is
the tiniest little oil painting in a sweet old frame.

Couldn't resist this little metal basket with the metal flowers
inside

Precious little floral picture. I think there is a garden
theme going on here that I wasn't aware of before.

More gardenish things and a simple rack that will come
in handy for something. The white wire thing works
like an easel and stands up. And a little watering can.

Cutest little bird in the world. He isn't old but he has such
a great attitude I figured he would enjoy coming home with
me.

At a thrift store I found 5 old suitcases and they all came
home full. Plus bags of other things I found at other places.
It was a good junking week. Now I have a real need to get
organized. Yes...the O word. Having only one day between our
Vintage Gathering flea market and leaving on vacation and
then hauling home more stuff......OH MY!

Good Vacation

My husband and I spent the last week in central Oregon.
Many people see Oregon as plush and green and hilly.
Central Oregon is a high dessert. Our weather would be 31
overnight and 70+ during the day. I found some great things
at thrift stores in the area and then I saw the flier for "Junk

Between Us Girls" My luck was super because the sale was
the weekend I was there!!!!
It was set up at the home of a fellow junker that
I have "followed" for years in the Redmond, OR.
area. Lisa had a space in an antique mall that I just
loved and then she moved into her own garage, so I
had visited there, too.

So, I get out of my car and the first booth I see is our
very own local, Julie, of Kindred Roses!! How great is that??

This was a super fun sale. I was limited on what I could
buy because my car was already full of other "stuff".

This is Lisa's garage made over into The Back Porch. It
is very cute!!

Peggy is the other half of JBUGs and this bed was in her
booth.

More fun things.

And more....... I did manage to get enough that I had to

make two trips to my car. It was so great to see Julie

and she will be at Farm Chicks and Barn House. WOW!

So, for me it was a perfect vacation. My husband golfed

and I junked and the weather was beautiful! And my sweetie

and I had fun together, too. (well, when I just read that last

sentence it sounded like husband and sweetie were two

different people...they are the same..)

My Beautiful Mother

This beautiful lady is my mother. She was

born May 9, 1909 and would have been 101

on Mother's Day this year. This picture was

when she was a senior in high school.

I have two brothers who are in their 70s...

I came along when mother was almost 40.

She died when I was almost 40. Since then

I have learned that there were many, many

things I should have asked her. There are

many times I wish I could just see if she had

the same feelings about getting older. I miss

her in ways I never expected I would. And

of course I still love her. Happy
Birthday and Happy Mother's Day, Mom.

Another Year Ends, and One Begins

26 years ago I was a nervous wreck. I was getting married
the next day. Yes, tomorrow is our 26th anniversary.

The sky tonight was very dramatic. I called my sweet
man into the front of the house to "look at the clouds" as
I have done for so many years. And he still appreciates
the fact that I enjoy the clouds.

He is my very best friend in the world. I find I love him
more than I used to. I find myself just watching him
sometimes and wondering how I ever got so lucky.
Of course there are times when we drive each other crazy.
But mostly we are still in love with each other and we really
like each other. He makes me laugh and feel secure. Our
personalities compliment each other. I am proud to be with
him, to love him, and be loved by him.

Fun Finds

Between keeping Andy's Attic stocked and piling things up
for A Vintage Gathering, I find that shopping is a must.
These are more of my recent finds.

And when I grow up I will learn how to operate a digital
camera......

I love this sweet bed jacket. The sleeves are scalloped and
it looks hand made.

Wooden boxes are another weakness of mine. They don't
have to be decorated but aren't they beautiful when they
have some sort of picture?

This hanger is a cutie. And turquoise is the new hot
color for 2010!

A sweet pink frame and a vintage cake cutter. Love the
flowers.

And I couldn't resist a bunch of hankies. My mother always
carried one as did my grandmother. They were such a
necessity before disposable Kleenex became readily available.

I hope your treasure hunts are successful. Is anyone looking for
anything specific? I am always curious,

Some Cowboy followed me Home

I found him this weekend while I was out with a friend. I
was not looking for Cowboys but this guy just caught my
eye and I decided to take him home. The landscape reminds
me of central Oregon. Many people don't realize that on
the other side of the beautiful mountains is a high desert. Hmmm,
I am growing more fond of this cowboy and may just keep him.

This picture may give you an idea of how eclectic
my taste is. The purple is strands of crochet. The
pink lamp is very sweet and the bottom part lights
separately...sort of like a night lite. Of course I love
baskets....but rick rack?? Silvery, sparkling rick rack?
I don't even know if I am spelling it correctly. It will
probably go to the shop or the flea market.

There really is quite a bit on that cardboard........

Lately, for some reason, I am drawn to wire baskets. And

they don't have to be old or even some unusual shape....

They just seem so functional. If I don't like the color

I can just spray paint them!

Here is one I found that I like just the way it is.

A different view. It sort of seems to have an attitude. I

like the curly with the all the other shapes.

The flea market season is starting and I'm getting excited.

I often wonder if the people who just drop by a flea market,

but don't go to thrift stores or garage sales or estate sales,

have any idea how much work it takes to pull one together.
Before I ever did one I had no concept. What I do know,

is that they are fun and the people are wonderful. While I've

been a collector forever, I am a newcomer to this adventure.

I treasure the friends I've made.

I think I need to go now and check on the cowboy. I'm not

sure how to break it to Mr. Attic,

Incredible Give Back

Laura's blog has the most exquisite photographs and she is a
flee market junky. Her Give Back (as she calls it) is one to

I went to Miami for the Weekend

But this Miami isn't in Florida. It is at South Beach
State Park just south of Newport, OR.

Usually twice a year we go "yurting" with 5 other couples.
If you don't know what a yurt is----you are looking at one.

This is Mr. Attic unlocking the door. I am not one who
really likes to rough it very much. Yurts are my friend.
They have locking doors, windows, heat, electricity (lights
and plugs) and furniture. Plus a wood floor and a patio.

They come with the futon for extra sleeping, plus a table with
four chairs. There is also a clear dome at the top that can
be opened in good weather. The walls are made of a canvas-
like material.

This is the bed which is a queen-size on the bottom. The
windows are covered with curtains for privacy and are made
with outside covers to protect from winter weather. The
windows are really more like screens.

Yurting is a blast. The yurts have fire pits and at least one
picnic table. No cooking allowed inside the yurt. We take a
blow up air mattress to add some comfort to the bed. Many of
the Oregon and Washington state parks have yurts. We have
stayed at many different parks and if you are interested you
need to make a reservation 9 months to the day ahead of
when you want to go. Something different to think about!

Return from vacation.....

This is what greeted us upon our return home.

We had a wonderful vacation visiting my oldest brother
in FL. We got to see my niece and great niece who are both
just lovely.

We saw my nephew and his wife and great nephew, wife
and kids. And my nephews' wifes' daughter.
And we got to meet my brothers' girlfriend. She is
a treasure. They are so in love and happy and it just makes
me smile to think about them!

Then we moved on to GA. and visited my friend from
forever and her husband. They took us to see sights and
fed us like we hadn't eaten in months. One of the things
I do miss about living in the south is the cooking. My
friend cooked collard greens for me that were to die for!!

We made it home safely and both of us have a bad cold
and cough. The perils of travel. But I wouldn't trade it for
anything!! We didn't get to see everybody I had hoped but
it was up lifting to see family and friends that I haven't seen
in too long. I love them all and miss them.
